KimPetras

The fact that she’s already received more than a million visitors on her MySpace page is just the start of it because even at just 16, stunning Kim Petras could give veterans like Madonna a run for their money when it comes to professionalism.

Not only did she write, perform and co-produce all her music – but she helped direct the videos and the photoshoots and hand-picked the team of experts backing her up.

“I’ve dreamed about this moment for so long I’m not going to back off now.”

“I know I’m young but I have strong feelings and ideas and I know what’s right for me,” she explained.

Her determination is all the more impressive when you realise that Kim really is no ordinary girl – and was actually born a boy.

Growing up in Germany, she knew for as long as she can remember that she was meant to be a girl.

“I felt like a girl, I thought of myself as a girl and everyone thought of me as a girl.”

“The rest of it was just an accident of Nature – and one I was determined to put right,” she said.

By the time she was 12, Kim had persuaded her parents Lutz and Konni to let her begin hormone therapy. And just three years later she became the youngest person in the world to undergo a full sex change operation. Now, that same determination has brought her to the edge of a glittering world wide showbiz career.

Her debut video ‘Die For You’will get its TV premiere on ITV’s This Morning programme later today (TUE).

It will be followed by another single next week and the album the following month. And the release is drawing the sort of showbiz sensation that normally accompanies established stars.

Talk shows in America, Europe and Australia are queuing up to speak to her.

“There´s something about Kim that just reaches out and touches people. Maybe it´s because she hasn´t had an easy life.

“She didn´t complain about it, she got on with making it better. She went out and got her dream all by herself.

“Kim did it her own way, made her own decisions and is in charge of her life. It´s a very potent, positive message,” said her manager David Rogers.

Kim never drinks, never takes drugs and writes all her own lyrics and music.

Her photographs from numerous fashion shoots – which she controls and directs – are modest but reveal stunning looks that make it hard to believe she could have grown up a man.

“The reason I do this is because I love music. It sounds corny but it´s true,” she said.

“I come from a musical family. My mother is a dance instructor and my family all play musical instruments.

“My love for music is something that sustains me and keeps me going even when things get really tough.

“Whatever I had to go through at school when I was growing up when people weren´t very kind about what was happening to me, it was always the music that helped me.

“I am happy that I can write my own lyrics and music, and I’m happy that I’ve been really lucky in persuading enough people to help me to make what I want to become a reality,” she said.

After failing to get signed by a big record label, Kim teamed up with a friend to sell her work.

Since then she has signed up her own video-maker, manager and official photographer and in the pre-publicity to her first single she has already notched up 1,000,000 hits on her MySpace page.

Next, she´s thinking of signing up other artists to join her mini hit factory.

Kim’s record producer Fabian Goerg said: “She is really amazing, she gets involved in every aspect of her career.

“It was difficult to get used to it because she’s a 16-year-old girl but when you look beyond that you see all her ideas are really good.

“She taught herself English from watching television, she works non-stop until she gets the songs right.

“Kim is always working. If it´s not the writing, it´s the performance. If it´s not recording, it´s the business side. She´s a one woman Motown.

“Because she doesn’t have any backing at all everything she’s achieved has come from persuading people who now believe in her.

“When we started to get behind on the video, she did the dancing at double speed. She also does her own make up and choreographs her routines.

“She’s gathered a whole team around her and I think it’s a remarkable achievement.”

The media have already dubbed Kim Germany´s new pop princess. The most recent article on her showed a double page spread of Kim modelling her fresh teenage look.

Tomorrow she´s on ITV´s This Morningand is currently filming with four TV crews.

Austrian journalist Alex Lorenz said: “I had all sorts of questions about the story but as soon as I got here and met her all the doubts vanished.

“She is obviously a girl, everything about her and the way she acts, and she’s obviously enjoying living her dream.

“She is not sitting around waiting for something to happen — she’s going about organising it and if that means doing it the hard way by doing it herself and that’s what she’s decided. She is a really remarkable young lady.”

Manager David Rogerssays Kim´s struggle to overcome prejudice is the perfect antidote to the bad news flooding the world at the moment.

“There is not a lot of bad news about at the moment and Kim is a genuine happy ending story.

“She has had a tough time in early life and she has still come out of its smiling – and everything she’s achieved has been to her own hard work,” he explained.

Her photographer Alexander Basta added: “She is a natural in front of the camera and she never let anything stop her.

“She often does her own make up when we can’t afford a stylist in the budget.

German music video maker Philip Birkenstock said: “When filming the video she was doing a 15 hour day – she didn’t stop to take a break and even did some of the dance scenes at double speed to make sure we could fit it all in on time. One of the scenes in a bar she danced everything at twice the speed perfectly.”

In the evening when other stars would be enjoying five-star hotel rooms and nightclub VIP suites, Kim is happier at home in her bedroom where she lives with her family.

Nights are spent dealing with her fan mail personally – as well as the business side of her career.

She has photographs for the album to choose, the web page design, and a diary to juggle for meetings with sponsors and journalists.

“I don´t miss that side of showbiz at all,” said Kim. “I´m too young to get into a club and I don´t drink anyway.”

“I wouldn’t change anything about me or how I got here. I’m doing what I love and am finally happy with who I am,” she added.
